I have completely redesigned the layout of the site to maximize deal viewing. The deal posts on the home page are now shown in two columns to make the best use of space. The biggest difference you will immediately notice is that you can view the same amount of deals with much less scrolling. Also updated is the “I Bought This” button. Just click the price-tag image anytime you buy a deal so everyone can see how popular a deal is. Expired deals are again hidden from the home page, but they will still show up in search results. Feel feel to comment with any feedback you have on the new look.

This is just the beginning… Read More as there are some great new things ahead for Mac App Deals. We will be launching something all new in December! More details to come later. There will also be some new pages, new content, and many more giveaways. Until then, we hope you enjoy the new design.

Due to this, please note that deals from the Mac App Store can end at any time and might even drop lower in price after a deal is posted. We have no control over knowing when prices will change, so we will simply cover the ones we think people will be interested in knowing about.

We understand that not everyone wants to know about deals in the Mac App Store. We have created new RSS feeds and email subscriptions to accommodate this. The Mac App Store has been out for over a month now and it has become a new way for many people to discover new apps. There have also been many new developers coming to the Mac to take advantage of the new store, and dozens of new apps are added to the Mac App Store every day. If you have followed the App Store at all, you know that price changes happen like crazy. The same is becoming true of the Mac App Store.

Keeping up with every price drop in the Mac App Store would be far too much for us to be able to handle, especially when another website is already doing it beautifully. We are therefore announcing that Mac App Deals will not be covering Mac App Store deals.

The best way to follow deals in the Mac App Store is with App Shopper. It regularly updates with price changes and updates to any Mac app in the Mac App Store. You can even sign up for a free account and search for Mac apps you want, and it can send you an email when that app drops in price in the Mac App Store. On the right hand side of the page, you will find a list of many RSS feeds including one called “All Mac App Price Drops.” This way you can get updated when any app drops in price. For your convenience, we have added a section on the right side of Mac App Deals to displays the 60 most recent price drops from this RSS feed.

(Note to developers: The best way to do an introductory sale might be to start your app at it’s normal price and then immediately drop it to the introductory price so it shows up as a price drop.)

Mac App Deals will continue to run, covering all deals on Mac apps and bundles sold outside of the Mac App Store. Though we will not post Mac App Store deals, we would love to help promote apps in it by giving away promo codes. Developers can contact us if they would like to send us some codes to give away.

This will make it MUCH easier to navigate through the current deals. Before the change, there were 270 pages of deals. After hiding expired deals, the number of pages is only 16. Now you can easily find current deals and spend less time sorting through expired deals.

Expired deals are only hidden from the home page. You will still be able to view expired deals when you are viewing by tag or category. And if you do a search for an app, you will still get search results from expired deals. This way you can find the last time an app was on sale.

This change was discussed once before and people were in favor of it. If you have any feedback concerning this, feel free to post a comment. I hope this will make browsing the site even easier.

The past design worked well for a long time, but it was time for a new look. The new site design (introduced 3 months ago) makes it even easier to navigate through the deals. The categories are listed at the top of the page so that you can easily find deals that are free, ending soon, etc.

Being introduced today is new feature for coupon code deals that will take you straight to the purchase page for an app on sale. In addition, it will also copy the coupon code to your clipboard so that you can paste it on the purchase page to get the discount. NOTE: Copying the coupon code to the clipboard requires Flash. If you have a Flash blocker, then whitelist Mac App Deals to have this feature.

There will also be some new pages of content coming soon that will enhance your app shopping experience. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please feel free to share them in the comments.

I have been able to fix several bugs as well as make several improvments. There are a few other things that I can also change, but I want to get some feedback first before implementing them. Please comment to this post with your thoughts, numbered as below:

1. Hide Expired Deals – This would hide all of the expired deals from the site as well as from the RSS feed, making it easier to navigate through current deals. However, you would still be able to access expired deals through the expired category link, when viewing posts by tag, as well as through a site search. That way you can search for an app, and see if there has been a deal on it in the past. So respond to these 2 options:

A. -Hide expired deals from the site?
B. -Hide expired deals from the RSS feed and email subscription? (not 100% sure it will work, but it should)

2. Ads in RSS feed – I will now be able to remove 98% of all advertisements from the RSS feed. Depending on how you view the RSS, you may not have seen them anyway. I don’t think there will be any objections, but I still want feedback.

3. Feel free to make any other suggestions.

It is a fantastic new part of Mac App Deals that offers some great features. Now you can read Mac App Deals in 11 different languages. You can subscribe to RSS without leaving the page. You can scroll through a list of the most recent 25 deals, and even see if they are current or expired. You can post to Twitter from the site (I can add Facebook if people want it). There is also now the option to play games right here, with over 12,000 choices. An ad plays while the game is loading, and then you can click to skip it (I cannot remove them unfortunately). Finally, I can now post notifications that will pop up on the site when there is news.

Yesterday marked the site’s first day at achieving over 500 unique views. What used to be the peak day in hits is now the average. RSS readers have now topped 200 (though that number seems to fluctuate a lot), and another 100+ readers read through Twitter, Google Friend Connect, and Facebook.

Mac App Deals will continue to provide you with (hopefully) every deal out there! Remember that I have created a category called “Current” for you to find any deals still running, which I try to update every week or more. There is also the “Ongoing” category for deals that don’t expire.

And now for the winner of TimeBoxed.  Thanks to everyone who entered (24 total). Congratulations WalrusCP!  If you will send me a message through the contact page with the name and email you want the program registered to, I will get that to the developer and get you your license.  If you don’t want it, then let me know and I will draw another name.

Also, feel free to post links to any reviews for the apps in the comments, or anything else that will help others regarding each application and discount.  I will also be giving away free apps from time to time to followers.
